Identify Your Values. Most of us are familiar with the term values, but how many of us have given much thought to what it means? At least in our own lives? According to the Ethics Sage, “Values are basic and fundamental beliefs that guide or motivate attitudes or actions.” Most of us simply adopt the values that we’re raised with, but how often have you sat down and really thought about the type of person you want to be and the primary characteristics that you consider to be most important to you? This is truly a game changing exercise. It takes us out of automatic pilot and really gives guidance to our everyday decisions. When we’re faced with a difficult decision, or are tempted to act in a certain way, we can hold it up to our values. Whether or not it’s in alignment with them can guide or direct us. It doesn’t matter whether we’re 85 or 25, identifying our values is one of the most important things we can do to make sure that we’re being the kind of person we want to be in the life we want to be living.
