Choose the people you hang around with carefully. This is something we teach our children from an early age, but it’s just as important when we’re adults. The people we surround ourselves with influence our attitudes, our habits, what we say and what we think. As motivational speaker Jim Rohn said, “You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
If we surround ourselves with people who value a healthy lifestyle, they’re going to influence and support you in doing the same. If you surround yourself with people who say they don’t have time to exercise or eat healthy and then regularly go through the drive-thru and rarely make time to exercise, you’re likely to end up with their habits. This doesn’t mean that you have to only be friends with people who share the same goals, interests and values that you do, but it does mean that when you pick the people that you’re going to spend the most time with, you need to choose wisely.
