Be adventurous in the kitchen. Taking chances in the kitchen isn’t always easy, but it’s one of the keys to learning how to cook healthy. It will enable you to learn how to prepare the healthiest versions of foods you thought were only available at your favorite restaurant and will teach you to experiment with new flavors you’ve never tried before. In other words, it gives you the power over your own health. If you don’t want to cook with oils, don’t. Experiment and find another way. That’s the name of the game – be willing to experiment and try new things. The kitchen isn’t the place to be timid. Be bold about what you want and open to new things all at the same time.
Note: One lesson I’ve learned the hard way is that when you’re trying new recipes from a cook you don’t have any experience with, don’t plan an entire week’s worth of meals around that one cook. If you try one or two recipes and don’t like the flavors for whatever reason, you’ll be stuck with a week’s worth of ingredients geared specifically toward that cook’s recipes. Of course, that may be the time to be adventurous and try to figure out what to do with those ingredients and come up with your own recipes!
